Something's Gotten Hold of My Heart được sáng tác bởi Roger Greenaway và Roger Cook và được Gene Pitney (1940 - 2005) ghi âm lần đầu vào năm 1967 (Clip trên). Khi đó bài hát đã đứng thứ 5 trong bảng xếp hạng các bài hát đơn hay nhất tại Anh. Mặc dù vậy nó không có chỗ trong bảng xếp hạng các ca khúc hay nhất tại Mỹ. Bài hát này sau đó được khá nhiều ca sĩ khác thể hiện lại, trong đó có Cilla Black, Terry Reid và Nick Cave.

Something's Gotten Hold of My Heart đạt được thành công lớn nhất vào năm 1989 khi được thể hiện lại bởi Marc Almond và Gene Pitney. Thực ra năm 1988 Almond đã thể hiện bài hát này một mình trong album The Stars We Are. Sau đó khi Almond kết hợp với Gene Pitney, người đầu tiên thể hiện bài hát này năm 1967, thì bài hát đã giữ ngôi vị bài hát đơn hay nhất ở Anh trong suốt 4 tuần tháng Giêng năm 1989. Mặc dù vậy, hãng phát hành đĩa của Pitney ở Mỹ đã từ chối phát hành đĩa nhạc song ca này tại Mỹ với lý do sợ rằng người mua sẽ nhầm lẫn cặp đôi giọng nam cao này là một đôi đồng tính. Trong đĩa nhạc này Almond mặc áo da, còn Pitney mặc bộ Texedo mầu trắng.
